Board of Directors - Sponsors

Makelab Charleston is organized for the purpose of providing a space in the Charleston area for artistic, technical, and educational pursuits. We seek to:

  • Provide a space for technical and artistic collaboration
  • Foster an environment of creativity and education
  • Freely share and distribute research and discoveries
  • And establish public outreach to improve scientific and technical knowledge in the Charleston area.

Board of Directors

President: Jarick Cammarato

B.S. Applied Science and Nuclear Technology
Jarick Cammarato is the president and founder of Makelab Charleston. Prior to Makelab Charleston Mr. Cammarato spent six years in the United States Navy as a nuclear power plant reactor operator. Mr. Cammarato is an active member of the big brothers big sisters program. He is now working on a second degree a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

Vice President: William Poteet

Born and raised in Upstate South Carolina, William found an interest in technology very early. He found a passion for technology by tearing down and repairing electronics and anything he could get his hands on. In 1996, William interned for Innova.NET, a startup ISP in Clemson, SC. After completing his internship with Innova.NET, he operated Cyber X Computing and continued his pursuit of computer support and system design. William moved to Charleston in 2000 and began Beacon Communications, LLC. In ten years of operating, Beacon has grown into a thriving local small business focusing on IT consulting, networking and installation. His hobbies include photography, general technology, astronomy, and taking things apart. He is married and has an 18 month old daughter.

Secretary: Chad Hobbs

B.S. in Electrical Engineering (pending)
Chad Hobbs is the Secretary and a founding member of Makelab Charleston. He was elected to this position in May of 2011. Before becoming a part of Makelab Charleston, Mr. Hobbs served in the United States Navy as a Nuclear Machinist Mate. After his enlistment, Mr. Hobbs became a pivotal member of a successful telecommunications company in Ohio. He then relocated to the Charleston area and began pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus in communication systems.

Treasurer: David Vandermolen

B.S. in Electrical Engineering (pending)
David G. VanderMolen is the Treasurer and a founding member of Makelab Charleston. Prior to Makelab Charleston, Mr. VanderMolen spent 8 years in the United States Navy as a nuclear submarine electrical operator. After his enlistment, Mr. VanderMolen explored opportunities both as a facility maintenance/environmental director and as an electronics technician. He is currently pursuing his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and will be attending the Citadel in the Fall of 2012.
