Makelab Charleston welcomes Jackie Duchene, a faculty member at Trident Technical College, to teach a basic course in soldering! The course will cover basic techniques and all participants will have the opportunity to solder together a kit they can take home. This clasSpecific techniques to be taught will be circuit-board soldering, wire to component soldering, and wire to wire soldering. Basic safety and concerns will be discussed as well. The class should take two to three hours depending on the students. The cost of the class will be $15 per person. You can bring your own iron if you want, but soldering irons, solder, and flux will be provided. A small electronic kit will be yours to take home when completed! Who are we?
Makelab Charleston is accepting new members! We are a 501(C)3 sponsored organization, which allows the group to solicit for and pool resources to purchase equipment like CNC machines, drill presses, quality soldering stations, 3-D printers, all to benefit the community. If you are interested in working to bring more science, technology, and art to the Charleston area, join now!
Open House
We host an open house most Sundays at 1PM. To find out if we are having an open house, please visit our Makelab Meetup page. They are held at our space, 3955 Christopher St, North Charleston, SC 29405. Our current space is not what is shown in the video below, but some of the things we do are represented in the video. We are in a larger facility with more resources, and are looking to grow even more!


Bring your rig, network cable, and favorite beverage, and prepare to get fragged! Makelab Charleston will be hosting a LAN party every other month on the 3rd Saturday, just opposite of our card and board game night.
Please mention your favorite game in the comment section so others can know about it and add it to their install list. We like to focus on free, open source, and multi-platform games so the most amount of people can join in. Some of the games that will be featured are:

On Thursday, the 31st, Makelab will be hosting a free session about Blender. Blender is a free and open source 3D modeling program used to create powerful 3D applications, film, or video games. Jim Pollard a local animation enthusiast has volunteered to take us through an introduction to this powerful piece of software. This is a FREE session for anybody interested. On October 4th at 5:30pm, Dr. Eben Upton will be in town to do a presentation on the Raspberry Pi! The Raspberry Pi is a tiny, cheap linux computer that has tons of potential and costs as little as $25. Dr. Upton is the Executive Director of the Raspberry Pi Foundation and an inventor of the device! Space is limited, so sign up for the event at our Meetup page now!
